Swimming And Diving To Host Army Friday

AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass men's and women's swimming and diving teams are set to host Army, Friday at 5:00 p.m., for their 2012-13 home opener. Both teams are coming off a loss last weekend against Boston University. The meet is set to be televised on CBS 3 Now (Comcast 293, Charter 230) and online via UMass All-Access.
Despite their 182.5-116.5 loss to the Terriers last weekend, the Minutemen had two swimmers recognized by the Atlantic 10 for their performances.
Chris Inglis was named A-10 Performer of the Week after winning both the 200-yard and 100-yard freestyle events.
Kyle Vieira received the A-10 Rookie of the Week honor following his first career meet. Vieira, finished second in the 500-yard freestyle and third in the 1000-yard freestyle.
The Minutemen will be looking to improve on their 2-5 all-time record against Army. Last season the Black Knights were able to come out on top, defeating UMass from West Point, 177-112.
The Minutewomen also had standout performances in their loss to BU.
Senior diver Michaela Butler was named A-10 Co-Performer of the Week after winning both the one- and three-meter diving events. In the one-meter she qualified for the NCAA B-cuts with a score of 290.10.
Molly Smyth also had a great day in the pool setting a school record in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:18.72, good for a second-place finish.
The women hold a 6-1 all-time record against Army. Last season they won a 151-149 thriller from West Point.
