Aguguo A-10 Champ In Triple Jump

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The UMass women's track and field team finished competition at the A-10 Championship meet in Charlotte, N.C. this Sunday. The squad finished eighth overall with 48 points. Stephanie Aguguo won her second A-10 Champion title of the year in the triple jump, and Gina Perno and Rachelle Bourque both had second place finishes.
Stephanie Aguguo bested her own school record in the triple jump with her leap of 41-03.75. This bested her previous best mark by 5.25 inches, which she set last week at the UMass Pre-Conference Meet.
The 4x800 meter relay team smashed the UMass all-time record with a time of 8:54.72, which is 6.87 seconds faster than the previous mark. They finished in fourth place at the meet.
Gina Perno bested her own third all-time mark in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:10.29 and grabbed a second place finish. Rachelle Bourque also finished second with a throw of 139-04, which was just four inches shy of her personal best throw and UMass all-time record.
Chrissy Silvar finished in sixth in the pole vault with a mark of 11-01.75, a season high and the fifth all-time mark for UMass.
Karen Roa finished fifth in the steeplechase, with an impressive time of 10:35.43. This was just 1.27 seconds slower than her personal best time and UMass all-time mark in the event. Nalis Mbianda finished fourth in the shot put with a toss of 44-05.50 and Rebecca Banker finished fourth in the high jump with a mark of 5-03.00.
Michelle Jenssen finished eighth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.91. Behind her in tenth and eleventh were Sarah Bitterman and Andrea Saccardo, with times of 1:07.23 and 1:07.34 respectively.
The Minutewomen will continue competition at the New England Championships next weekend on May 13 and May 14 in New Haven, Conn.
