UMass T&F Finishes 2011 Season At NCAAs

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The UMass Track and Field NCAA participants finished competition yesterday, May 27 in Bloomington, Indiana. Seniors Stephanie Aguguo, Daniel Barry and Sean Duncan along with junior Karen Roa made the trip for the NCAA East Preliminary.
Roa competed in the 3000 meter steeplechase and finished in 25th place out of 48 runners and had a time of 10:32.09. This time bested the school record by 2.07 seconds and this is the third time this season that Roa set the school record.
Also competing in the 3000 meter steeplechase was Duncan, who finished in 19th place out of 48 participants with a mark of 8:58.96. As a senior, Duncan will leave UMass holding the third all-time mark in the steeplechase with a time of 8:52.85.
In the triple jump, Aguguo leapt 39 feet and eight inches to finish in 38th place out of 47 competitors. Graduating this year, she holds the school record in the outdoor triple jump with a mark of 41-03.75 and holds the second all-time mark in the indoor triple jump with a jump of 40-03.25.
Rounding out competitors was Barry in the 1500 meter run with a time of 3:47.12, which tied his existing second all-time mark for UMass in the event. Another senior, Barry leaves holding the fourth all-time mark in the indoor mile run with a time of 4:08.82, the fourth all-time mark in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 7:37.74, and the second all-time mark in the 1500 meter run.
This competition closes out the 2010-2011 Track and Field season for both the Minutemen and Minutewomen. Join us next fall for the 2011 Cross Country action!
