Aguguo Sets New All-Time Mark In Triple Jump

AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass women's track and field team held their third and final home meet of the outdoor season this Saturday, April 30. The squad finished first of five teams, scoring 194 points off of seven first place finishes and three second place finishes. The men's track and field team also placed first at the meet.

Stephanie Aguguo had the performance of the day with her leap of 40-10.50 in the triple jump, which set a new all-time mark for UMass in the event. Stephanie previously held the second all-time mark, but bested her jump by 16.50 inches to get the first place spot.

Gina Perno finished first in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:10.92, which is a personal record for Perno and the third all-time mark at UMass. Coming in behind Perno was Claire Pettit, who finished second in the 800 with a time of 2:15.31. Deanna Julian finished in fourth in the event with a time of 2:16.06 and Erika Unger finished in sixth with a time of 2:17.50.

Also finishing in first was Karen Roa, who ran the 1500 meter run, and clocked a time of 4:40.05. Elizabeth Fisk also ran in the 1500 and finished in sixth place with a time of 4:48.34. After Fisk was Lauren Stocker, who finished in seventh with a time of 4:49.57.

Kayla Baldwin had a standout day, finishing in first in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.50. She also finished in second place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.57. Also running these events was Emma Riedel, who finished in third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.05 and finished in sixth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.73.

The 4X400 meter relay team, Consisting of Gina Perno, Erika Unger, Sarah Bitterman, and Michelle Jenssen grabbed a first place finish with a time of 3:53.68.

Rounding out first place finishes were Ida Okkonen in the long jump and Nalis Mbianda in the shot put. Okkonen finished first with a mark of 18-01.75 and Mbianda finished first with a throw of 42-07.50. Also in the long jump was Katherine Finnegan, who finished in third place with a mark of 17-07.00.

Jenelle Denehy and Chrissy Silvar tied for second in the pole vault, both jumping a height of 10-08.00. In the 400 meter hurdles, Michelle Jenssen finished in third place with a time of 1:04.12 and Sarah Bitterman finished in fourth place with a time of 1:04.88. Kristin Darling also had a third place finish in the 5000 meter run with a time of 18:49.19.

Next weekend brings the Atlantic 10 Championship meet, to be held in Charlotte, N.C. on Saturday, May 7 at 9 a.m.
