Karen Roa Breaks UMass All-Time Record

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Minutewomen finished up day one of the Larry Ellis invitational in Princeton, N.J. where only two UMass women's runners competed.
Karen Roa had the performance of the day in the 3000 meter steeplechase, where she broke the all-time school record in the event, which she previously held. She ran a time of 10:34.16, which broke her previous record (10:46.19) by 12.03 seconds.
So far this season, Roa has competed in a variety of events, including the 5000 meter run at the UMass Invitational where she finished second with a time of 17:35.18, the 1500 meter run at the Minuteman Invitational where she finished in first place with a time of 4:45.82, and now the 3000 meter steeplechase.
Gina Perno also competed in her event, the 800 meter run, and finished in 51st place with a time of 2:14.85. Currently her best time on the season is 2:12.38, which came at the UMass Invitational.
The Minutewomen continue competition today, April 23. Final results will be posted at the end of the meet.
