Six First Place Finishes For Minutewomen

AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass women's track and field team were at it again at the UMass Track and Field Complex for the Minuteman Invitational, the squad's second straight home meet. The team took first at the meet with a total of 190 points, coming from five first place finishes and four second place finishes. The men's track and field team also placed first at the meet.
In the 1500 meter run, Karen Roa placed first with a time of 4:45.82. This was her first time competing in this event this season. Stephanie Aguguo finished first in the triple jump with a mark of 37-09.25, which qualified her for this year's New England Championships.
In the 800 meter run, Gina Perno took first place with a time of 2:13.18, which qualifies her for the NECs. Coming in third and fourth were Deanna Julian and Erika Unger, with times of 2:17.29 and 2:21.15, respectively.
The pole vault had a 1-2-3 finish, where each Minutewomen cleared a height of 10-08.00. In first place was Jenelle Denehy, followed by Christine Silvar and Lindsey Pfau. Denehy won based on the amount of times cleared.
Katherine Finnegan had a standout performance in the long jump, taking first place with a leap of 17-07.00. This jump qualified her for the New England Championships. Coming in second place was Ida Okkonen, with a mark of 17-03.50.
The 4x400 meter relay team, made up of Perno, Unger, Sarah Bitterman, and Michelle Jenssen, had a second place finish with a time of 4:04.00. Also coming in second was Rachelle Bourque in the javelin throw, who had an impressive throw of 136-09.00, which qualifies her for the NECs. In the 400 meter hurdles, Bitterman had a second place finish with a time of 1:07.60.
Look out for the Minutewomen next weekend at the Larry Ellis Invitational in Princeton, N.J. The meet will take place on Friday, April 22 at 4 p.m. and Saturday, April 23 at 10 a.m.
