Good Marks From UMass On Day One Of ECACs

BOSTON, Mass. - The UMass women's track and field team closed out day one on Saturday, March 5. So far the Minutewomen have scored no points in the meet, and have produced one qualifier for day two's finals.
In the 1000 meter run, Gina Perno had an impressive time of 2:52.18 which qualified her for finals on day two. This time is her second best time of the season, falling just short of her personal record time of 2:51.47, which is the second best all-time mark in the UMass record books.
In the 500, UMass's two runners didn't qualifiy, but still posted impressive times. Deanna Julian came in 23rd with a time of 1:16.59 and Michelle Jenssen was right behind her, coming in 24th with a time of 1:16.64.
The 4x800 relay team, consisting of Gina Perno, Deanna Julian, Claire Pettit, and Caroline Conena, finished 18th at the meet and had a time of 9:21.74, which is a second best time of the season in the event, but the team failed to qualify for the finals.
The Minutewomen continue competition today, Sunday, March 6, where the Distance Medley Relay, the 3000 meter run, the triple jump, and the finals of the 1000 meter run will take place.
