NEWPORT NEWS, V.A. - Sophomore Nalis Mbianda continues a standout season with her election to the Academic All-Conference team on Friday afternoon. This Newton, Mass. native has made a big mark in the UMass record book this season as well as in the classroom, where she boasts a 3.639 GPA and majors in Kinesiology.

Throughout the season, Mbianda has continued to prove herself in shot put. She set the second best all-time mark in the event with a throw of 44-11.75 at the Valentine Invitational, which is a record that she previously set last year with a mark of 44-08.25. This record is just two inches shy of tying the all-time mark at UMass.

Her 44-06.00 throw at the Reebok Boston Indoor Games was good enough for first place at the meet and qualified her for the New England Championship meet, which she competed in last weekend, and the ECAC meet, which she is competing in this weekend.

The Minutewomen will be competing in the ECAC Championship meet today and tomorrow in Roxbury, Mass.
