Tennis Sweeps Match With Palm Beach Atlantic, 7-0

PALM BEACH, Fla. - The UMass tennis team won all three doubles matches and then took all six singles matches to sweep Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednesday in Palm Beach, concluding the team's Florida trip. There were several dominating performances for UMass, including Jocelyn Providence dropping just one game in her victory at No. 6 singles and Jessica Podlofsky losing just two games in her No. 3 singles win. Yuliana Motyl secured the sweep with a hard-fought three-set victory at No. 1 singles.
UMass finished the week with a 1-3 mark on their Florida trip. The squad returns north to host Atlantic 10 Conference foe St. Bonaventure next Saturday, March 26 at the Bay Road Tennis Club, where Judy Dixon's team is 3-0 this season.
The always strong doubles teams got the Minutewomen off to a quick start, taking the doubles point by sweeping all three matches. Motyl and Chantal Swiszcz teamed up to defeat Baca-Trotter, 8-1. Tanisha Hodgson and Providence beat Wharton/Ittersagen, 8-5, and Podlofsky and Kaitlin Carpenter rolled past Vahatalo/Livesay, 8-1.
Motyl won the battle over Baca at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 4-6, 10-6, while Candynce Boney beat Vahatalo at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 7-5. Podlofsky cruised pas Trotter at No. 3, 6-2, 6-0, and Carpenter got stronger as her match with Wharton went on, winning at No. 4, 6-3, 6-1. Swiszcz and Providence completed the sweep at No. 5 and No. 6 singles with wins over Ittersagen and Domenech, 6-1, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-1, respectively.
