Roa Makes Big Mark At Day Two Of Giegengack

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The UMass women's track and field team closed out competition at the Giegengack Invitational this Saturday, Feb. 6. Paving the way for the Minutewomen was Karen Roa, whose time in the 5000 meters qualified her for the New England and ECAC Championships. The mark (17:30.77) pushed Roa to second place at the meet and was also good for the fifth fastest all-time mark at UMass in the event.
Chrissy Silvar set a new season high, besting her previous fifth highest all-time mark at UMass in the pole vault. Silvar notched a height of 11-03.75, qualifying her for the New England Championships and getting her second place at the meet.
Rounding out the New England Championship qualifiers was Elizabeth Fisk (mile, 5:05.93), Meghan Leahy (400 meters, 59.44), and Michelle Jenssen (500, 1:18.05). The trio had finishes of fifth, tenth, and sixth in their respective events.
Also of note on day two was Stephanie Aguguo, who won the triple jump (38-06.25) and Nalis Mbianda who placed third in the shot put (43-03.25).
UMass will hit the track once again this Friday, Feb. 11 for the Valentine Invitational. The meet will provide some good preparation for the A-10 Championships on the weekend of Feb. 18.
