Aguguo, Perno Take Second At New Englands

BOSTON, Mass. - Members of the UMass women's track and field squad have finished competition at the New England Championship meet. The Minutewomen finished fifth out of 25 teams and tallied 44 points, and UMass continued to dominate the 500 meter run and the 1000 meter run in day two.
Gina Perno had another standout performance in the 1000 meter run, where she finished second in the finals of the event. She had a time of 2:51.47, which tied the second best all-time mark at UMass.
Stephanie Aguguo took second in the triple jump with a mark of 39-05.00. This jump was 10.25 inches shy of her best mark, which is a second best all-time mark at UMass.
In the 500 meter run finals, Michelle Jenssen took fifth place and Deanna Julian took sixth. Both set UMass all-time marks in the event, Jenssen taking the fourth best all-time spot with a time of 1:15.65 and Julian bested her own fifth best all-time mark with a time of 1:15.70.
Rounding out the top performers is Karen Roa, who finished third in the 3000 meter run. She had a time of 9:49.38, which is the fourth best all-time mark at UMass, a record that she previously held.
Next weekend holds the ECAC meet, where some of the Minutewomen will be competing. The meet will be held Friday March 5th and Saturday March 6th in Roxbury, Mass.
