Big Green Ends Tennis' Win Streak At Three

HANOVER, N.H. - In a battle against a formidable opponent, the UMass tennis team (6-4) came up just short against the Dartmouth Big Green (5-4), 4-3, on Friday at the Boss Tennis Center. Even against a tough opponent, both Chantal Swiszcz and Jessica Podlofsky were able to keep their personal win streaks intact at five after today's match.
In the doubles matches, UMass' lone victory came from the senior connection of Candynce Boney/Tanisha Hodgson against Ryan Reichel/ Georgiana Smyser, 8-1, in the No.2 doubles. But for the No.1 and No. 3 duos of Yuliana Motyl/ Chantal Swiszcz and Jessica Podlofsky/ Kaitlyn Carpenter, they fell to Darmouth's No.1 Molly Scott/ Melissa Matsuoka, 8-1, and No.3 Jeri Reichel/ Christina Danosi, 8-1.
The singles matches were as if both teams were on a seesaw, back and forth. The first two matches were taken by the Big Green's No.1 Molly Scott and No.2 Melissa Matsuoka against Yuliana Motyl, 6-1,6-1, and Julia Comas, 3-6, 6-1, 6-0.
Then senior Candynce Boney grabbed the No. 3 singles match from Ryan Reichel, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Then Dartmouth's Christina Danosi took the No. 4 singles match in straight sets against Kaitlyn Carpenter, 6-1, 6-2.
But Umass' No. 5 and No 6 singles players Jessica Podlofsky and Chantal Swiszcz secured the last two points from Georgiana Smyser,3-6, 6-4, 6-1, and Valeriya Tatisheva, 6-7, 7-5, 10-8.
