Tennis Grabs Third Straight Win At UConn, 6-1

STORRS, Conn. - The UMass tennis team (6-3) grabbed a decisive win over UConn (1-4), 6-1, on Tuesday at University of Connecticut Tennis Center. UMass was able to attain two of three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches. Freshman Yuliana Motyl was able to win her second consecutive career match at UMass against Jennifer Learmoth, 3-6, 7-5, 10-6.
In UMass doubles matches wins, both No.1 Chantal Swiszcz/ Yuliana Motyl and No. 3 Jessica Podlofsky/ Kaitlyn Carpenter had their hands tied as both matches went into tiebreakers with the final scores resulting in 9-8 against UConn's No. 1 Jennifer Learmoth/ Emily Herb and No.3 Lauren Wilmarth/ Lucy Nutting.
For the singles matches, the No. 1 Yuliana Motyl and No.6 Chantal Swiszcz battled their way through a win in three hard fought sets against the Huskies' No.1 Jennifer Learmoth and No.6 Lucy Nutting. As for No. 2 Julia Comas, No. 4 Jessica Podlofsky, and No. 5 Kaitlyn Carpenter, were able to take care of their opponents in straight sets in convincing fashion.
The Huskies lone victory came in the No.3 singles match, as Alexa Gregory was able to battle off senior Candynce Boney in a tough match, 6-4, 6-3.
The UMass tennis teams looks forward to Thursday, Feb. 24 match at Darmouth at 5 p.m.
