WEST POINT, N.Y. - he UMass tennis team (4-3) ended their trip at West Point by defeating Bryant (), 7-0, on Sunday at Litchenberg Tennis Center. UMass was able to beat two of the three tough teams on the road, highlighted by senior Candynce Boney going 3-0 and totaling 55 for her career to be tied sixth all-time with Ola Gerasimova. Also, Yuliana Motyl was able to win her first career No. 1 singles match vs. Bryant's Claudia Hidalgo, 6-4, 7-5.
UMass was able to grab the match's first point by sweeping all three doubles matches. The No. 1 doubles duo of Yuliana Motyl/ Chantal Swiszcz defeated Stephanie Smeyers/ Valeria Couto Cuervo, 8-1. No. 2 duo of Kaitlyn Carpenter/ Jessica Podlofsky grabbed a victory vs. Claudia Hidalgo/ Lucy Bird 8-5. The No. 3 doubles team of Julia Comas/ Jocelyn Providence rounded out things with a win over Irma Rodriguez Lockwood/ May Vickers, 8-1.
As for the singles matches, No. 1 singles match featured Yuliana Motyl battling with Claudia Hidalgo, as she grabbed her first singles match win, 6-4, 7-5. No.2 match had Julia Comas win in straight sets against Lucy Bird, 6-0, 6-2. No. 4 Jessica Podlofsky, No. 5 Chantal Swiszcz and No. 6 Jocelyn Providence all rounded out the match with decisive wins over May Vickers, 6-2,6-0, Valeria Couto Cuervo, 6-2,6-1, and Irma Rodriguez Lockwood, 6-1,6-1.
The No. 3 singles match ended up in three hard fought sets, with Kaitlyn Carpenter grabbing the win over Stephanie Smeyers, 6-7, 6-0, 10-6.
