Minutewomen Finish Seventh At A-10s

The women's track and field team finished up the Atlantic 10 Championships today. The squad scored a total of 40 points and finished seventh out of 11 teams. The Minutewomen produced one A-10 Champion this weekend in the triple jump.Stephanie Aguguo finished in first in the triple jump with a mark of 40-03.25. This mark was good enough for the second best all-time UMass record, which she previously held, and was just shy of tying the all-time mark at UMass. Taking first also put her on the A-10 first team All-Conference.
The distance medley relay team, including Gina Perno, Michelle Jenssen, Claire Pettit and Karen Roa came in third on day one of the meet with a time of 11:49.37. This time was good enough for the second best all-time record at UMass.
Karen Roa set a UMass all-time record in the 3000 meter run. Her time of 9:51.38 put her at the fourth all-time spot.
In the 1000 meter run, Gina Perno finished fourth in the preliminaries with a time of 2:55.02, and fifth in the finals with a time of 2:56.69.
Deanna Julian finished fourth in the 500 meter run preliminaries with a time of 1:16.81 and finished eighth in the finals with a time of 1:17.30. Also in this event, Michelle Jenssen finished sixth with a time of 1:16.71.
Rebecca Banker tied her season high mark of 5-05.00 in the high jump, and came in fifth place in the meet. In shot put, Nalis Mbianda came in sixth place with a mark of 43-01.75.
The Minutewomen are back in action next weekend for the New England Championships. The meet will take place Friday, Feb. 25 and Saturday, Feb. 26 at 10:00 A.M. in Boston, Mass.
