Perno, Mbianda Standout At Valentine Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. - The UMass women's track and field team competed in the annual Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University on Friday, Feb. 11 where no team score was kept. Standout performances came from Gina Perno and Nalis Mbianda in the last meet before A-10s next weekend.
Gina Perno grabbed the second highest all-time performance at UMass the 800 meter run. She had a time of 2:12.62.
Nalis Mbianda bested her own second highest all-time mark at UMass in shot put. She threw 44-11.50, which also qualified her to go to ECACs, and was good enough for second place at the meet.
Also of note was the 500 meter run, which turned out two new New England Championship qualifiers, Michelle Jenssen with a time of 1:16.15 and Erika Unger with a time of 1:17.46.
The Minutewomen will be heading to A-10s this Friday, Feb. 18 and Saturday, Feb. 19 at 9:30 a.m. in North Kingston, R.I.
