Tennis Drops Road Match To Fordham, 5-2

BRONX, N.Y. - After winning two of three doubles matches to take the first point of Sunday's dual match, the UMass women's tennis team (1-1) lost five of six singles matches to host Fordham (4-0) as the Rams took a 5-2 victory in the Bronx. Julia Comas won at No. 4 singles for UMass.
UMass took the doubles point from the Rams after Sonia Bokhari and Jocelyn Providence won at No. 2 doubles and Jessica Podlofsky teamed with Chanel Glasper to win at No. 3 doubles.
Comas defeated Bella Genkina, 1-6, 7-5, 6-1 to win at No. 4 singles, accounting for UMass' second point.
Podlofsky moved up to play No. 3 singles and fell to Angelika Dabu, 6-2, 6-3, ending the sophomore's streak of nine straight singles victories to start the season.
Chantal Swiszcz returned from injury and was edged out at No. 6 singles by Julie Leong in a tight match, 6-7, 6-2, 11-9.
Next up for UMass is the ITA Regionals in New Haven, Conn. on Oct. 20-22.
