No. 1 Boston College Powers Past UMass Hockey 4-2

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - A pair of Bill Arnold goals and an unassisted power play goal in the third quarter gave the No. 1 Boston College Eagles a 4-2 win over the UMass hockey team on Friday night at Conte Forum. Andrew Tegeler scored his first collegiate goal for UMass, while Jeff Teglia made 31 saves in the loss. The Minutemen will face No. 7 Boston University next weekend in a home-and-home series starting next Friday in Amherst (NESN).
Boston College (4-1-0, 2-0-0 HEA) jumped on the scoreboard first when Arnold potted his first goal of the game, third of the season, just 78 seconds into the affair. Just over seven minutes later, Tegeler scored to tie things up at 1-1.
The Eagles scored a Chris Kreider power play goal at the 17:43 mark of the first period going into the first intermission up 2-1.
Despite Boston College outshooting UMass 14-to-2 in the second quarter, the Minutemen allowed just one goal when Arnold scored his second of the game at the 17:01 mark. Teglia made 13 of his 31 saves in the frame including several side-to-side, diving, and acrobatic stops.
In the third period, Johnny Gaudreau added an unassisted power play goal at the midway mark giving Boston College a 4-1 lead.
Michael Marcou scored his first goal of the season with three minutes left in the game to pull the Minutemen within two, 4-2. UMass pulled Teglia for the final 35 seconds for the extra skater, but could not find a quick goal to rally back.
BC finished the game outshooting UMass 35-to-20. The Eagles were 2-for-6 on the power play, while UMass was 0-for-7. A total of 20 penalties were called in the game for a combined 48 minutes.
