Comas Named UMass Athlete of the Week

AMHERST, Mass. - Tennis player Julia Comas has been named the UMass Athlete of the Week. She receives the award after returning from the West Point Eastern Invitational this past weekend where she won the Flight B singles championship going 5-0.
Opening the tournament on Friday, the sophomore received a first-round bye and proceeded to drop only one game in a straight-sets victory over Emily Marr of Holy Cross, 6-1; 6-0. Moving on to the third round on Saturday, the native of Spain won two matches, defeating Army's Taylor Della (6-3; 6-4) and Stony Brook's Prerana Appineni (6-3; 6-7(2)); 10-4.
Closing out the tournament on Sunday, Comas beat Emily Mathis in the finals 6-3; 6-4 to finish her perfect weekend.
Comas and the Minutewoman host their first two home matches of the season this week, versus Holy Cross on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. and against Fordham on Friday at noon. Both matches will take places on the Mullins Courts.
