Jannotta Competes In Father/Daughter Tennis Tournament

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - UMass rising-junior Gabriella Jannotta and her father, Jon Jannotta, a former collegiate player at Cal Poly, recently took third at the USTA National Father/Daughter Hard Court Championship in San Diego, Calif. The tournament was held at the Barnes Tennis Center, June 4-6.
The Jannotta's, ranked 19th in the nation, upset No. 3 Amy and John Gaisser, 6-3, 6-0 in the first round. In the second round, the duo defeated Julie and Ronald Baird, 6-2, 6-3, before falling to the eventual champions, Marianne and Al Baker, 6-1, 6-2, in the semifinals.
In a third-place match the following day, the Janotta's downed Alissa and Ralph Finerman, 7-5, 6-1, and were awarded a bronze ball trophy. It marked the pair's best finish in five years of competing in the tournament.
