Boney, Comas, Lecluyse Earn A-10 Honors

AMHERST, Mass. - After finishing a successful season, taking fifth at the Atlantic 10 tournament and going 12-7 in the regular season, the UMass women's tennis had three players honored by the conference on Friday with the announcement of the postseason awards. Junior Candynce Boney and freshman Julia Comas were both named to the All-Conference first team, while senior Maude Lecluyse was named to the Academic All-Conference team for the second-straight year.
Boney, who was an All-Conference second team selection a year ago, had an outstanding year for the Minutewomen. The junior played third singles for the first half of the season, putting together a 7-3 record before moving into the second singles spot, where she went 7-2. The Las Vegas, Nev. native was second on the team in singles wins with 14, while also going 8-7 at first doubles with partner Lecluyse. Boney had a big singles win in the A-10 tournament against St. Louis, while also going 2-1 in three doubles matches.
In just her first season in Amherst, Julia Comas has made a big impact for the Minutewomen. The Barcelona, Spain native was a two-time conference Rookie of the Week selection, while being named Performer of the Week once. Comas led the team in the regular season with 15 wins, including going 5-2 after being moved up to first singles. The freshman went 2-1 in first singles at the A-10 tournament to help the Minutewomen to the fifth-place finish.
Senior captain Maude Lecluyse was named to the Academic All-Conference team for the second-straight year. Lecluyse had a great career at UMass, both on the court and in the classroom. She led the team with a 3.954 GPA while earning a degree in Accounting. The Montreal, Canada native also finished her career ranked fourth all-time in doubles wins with 68, and is in the top-10 in singles wins with 51.
UMass finished fifth overall at the A-10 tournament, one spot better than where they finished a year ago.
