Rowing Completes Weekend Series With Amherst And Vermont

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The UMass rowing team hosted two races last weekend against Amherst College and Vermont. The Minutewomen started the weekend against the Lord Jeffs on Saturday before completing the weekend with the Catamounts. Massachusetts will travel to Hanover, N.H. on Saturday for the Double Duel Regatta with Dartmouth, Buffalo and Cornell.
Amherst College entered one Varsity 4+ boat into Saturday's races, but the Minutewomen were able to hold them off to take a first place finish. UMass ended the morning with several head-to-head races against one another.
Sunday morning brought Vermont to the Connecticut River, and the Catamount Varsity 8+ surprised UMass by knocking off the Minutewomen by 1.6 seconds with a time of 6:42.20 while Massachusetts clocked in a 6:43.80. The Novice 8+ salvaged the day for the Minutewomen, narrowly edging Vermont with a time of 7:08.10, just 0.8 seconds ahead of the second place Catamounts.
