HANOVER, N.H. - The UMass Rowing team faced tough competition last weekend against Dartmouth, Cornell and Buffalo at the Double Dual Regatta. The Massachusetts first and second Varsity 8+ boats each finished fourth in the races, while the Lightweight 8+ knocked off the Bulls by nearly 10 seconds. The Minutewomen will head to Philadelphia for the Dad Vail Regatta, the largest collegiate regatta in the United States, on Friday and Saturday.

UMass and Buffalo squared off in the first round of the day, with the Bulls winning four of the five head-to-head races. The highlight of round one was the Massachusetts Lightweight 8+ ten-second win over Buffalo with a time of 6:32.30, steered by Carly Payne. The Varsity 8+, coxswained by Samantha Schnoerr, nearly knocked off Buffalo in the opening race of the day, but ultimately fell by three seconds with a time of 6:29.80. Molly Bogle's Varsity 4+ boat saw a similar result in its race despite clocking in with a time of 7:11.00.

The Bulls' Second Varsity 8+ handled Em Chiu and the Minutewomen (6:50.90), winning by a margin of 19 seconds. UMass' Third Varsity 8+ suffered a similar fate against Buffalo, falling with a time of 7:10.30.

The winners of the UMass-Buffalo and Dartmouth-Cornell series faced off in round two in the afternoon. The UMass V8+ improved on its round one time with a finish of 6:26.40, but the Big Red was too much with a first place finish at 6:09.40. The second Minutewomen V8+ also raced faster in its second heat against Dartmouth at 6:31.60, but once again it was the Ivy League getting the best of UMass as the Big Green clocked in at 6:19.70.

The third UMass V8+ knocked off Dartmouth in the third-place race with a time of 6:36.50, while the Varsity 4+ fell to the Big Green by five seconds at 7:08.80. The Minutewomen raced their Novice 4+ in the Second Varsity 4+ race on Saturday, but fell to Cornell in back to back races.
