UMass Falls To BU, 5-2, Saturday

AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass women's tennis team fell, 5-2, to Boston University at Mullins Courts on Saturday in a closely contested match. The Minutewomen had their four-match winning streak snapped with the loss, moving their overall record to 11-7 on the year. The loss was also just the second home loss of the season for UMass, who are 6-2 in Amherst with the only other loss coming against Boston College. The contest was the first of three-straight home matches for the Minutewomen to close out their regular season.
The Terriers took an early lead by sweeping the doubles matches to take the first point, but the Minutewomen did not make it easy. Candynce Boney and Maude Lecluyse stepped-up and played a terrific match, but fell just short against Stefanie Nunic and Vivien Lazlosffy, 8-5. Tanisha Hodgson and Julia Comas were also involved in a tight match, losing in a tiebreak to Francine Whu and Monika Mical, while Kaitlyn Carpenter and Jocelyn Providence lost by just two points to Petra Santini and Inayat Khosla.
Boney and Lecluyse claimed the only two points for the Minutewomen on the day. Boney won her fifth-straight singles match, defeating Whu, 3-6, 6-4, 10-6, moving her record to 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Lecluyse knocked-off Santini, who retired in the second set due to an injury. Carpenter pushed Mical to a third-set where she lost, 6-0, 1-6, 6-2.
The Minutewomen are back on the court on Monday afternoon when they host Quinnipiac at Mullins Courts for Senior Day starting at 2 p.m. The match will be broadcast on UMass All-Access.
