AMHERST, Mass. - Sophomore Jason Cook earned his second UMass Athlete of the Week honor for his performance at the NCAA Zone A meet last week. Cook notched two third-place finishes in both the one and three-meter diving events in the meet held at Rutgers University, finishing off a tremendous season in just his second year at Amherst.
Cook registered a score of 664.5 in the three-meter dive on Friday, following that up with a score of 633.25 in the one-meter dive on Saturday, earning him his second athlete of the week award of the year. The Amherst, Mass. native was also named UMass Athlete of the Week the week of February 22 after claiming a pair of gold medals at the Atlantic 10 Championships in both diving events.
The sophomore has been named an alternate for the NCAA National meet for his performance at the Zone A meet. The third-place finishes were the highest ever for Cook at the NCAA Zone A meet, as he also competed last year as a freshman. Cook finished the year with the most first-place finishes of any Minuteman, claiming victories 14 times throughout the season, failing to finish first just twice.
