PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The UMass women's tennis team played their second-straight nationally ranked opponent on Wednesday afternoon, as they fell to Brown, 7-0, in Providence, R.I. The loss was the third-straight for the Minutewomen, who still own a solid 7-4 record on the year. The win improved the 58th ranked Bears to 10-3 on the year.
Freshman Julia Comas returned to the lineup Wednesday after missing two-straight matches with an injury. Comas made an immediate impact as she teamed up with Magdalena Ploch to take the only singles point, defeating Misia Krasowski and Julie Flanzer, 8-5, in second doubles.
Brown would take the doubles point however, with Cassandra Herzberg and Aboubakare teaming up to knock-off Candynce Boney and Maude Lecluyse, 8-5, in a hard-fought battle in first singles. Emily Ellis and Marisa Schonfeld would clinch the point with an 8-1 win over Tanisha Hodgson and Jocelyn Providence in third doubles.
The Bears would sweep all six singles matches as well, taking the match by a final of 7-0. Ploch and Herzberg met at No. 1 singles in a battle that featured two regionally ranked players, with Herzberg getting the win, 6-0, 6-2. Providence played Ellis tough at No. 6 singles, falling, 6-3, 6-2, in the end.
The Minutewomen will get ready to hit the road for their spring break trip as they head to South Carolina for three matches against Charleston Southern, College of Charleston and Presbyterian.
