BOSTON, Mass. - The UMass women's track and field team had a phenomenal second day of competition at the New England Championships Saturday afternoon. Four Minutewomen set UMass top five all-time marks, vaulting UMass to a sixth place finish out of 34 teams. After ending day one of the meet in a distant 17th place, the Minutewomen were pushed up 11 spots by the phenomenal performances from the squad's top athletes.

Paving the way for UMass was junior Stephanie Aguguo who won the triple jump with a mark of 39-08.75. Aguguo qualified for the ECAC Championships with her jump, and now moves to second all-time at UMass in the event.

Senior Lisa Wilson improved upon her school record in the shot put by placing fifth with a toss of 45-03.50. Freshman Nalis Mbianda grabbed 7th place in the event with a mark of 43-09.75.

Brittany Bakanowski finished in sixth place in the 500 meters (1:16.08). The senior improved upon the fourth best all-time mark at UMass that she set at the Great Dane Invitational (1/22). Freshman Courtney Baldwin had the last UMass all-time mark as she finished the 1000 meters in 2:55.14. Baldwin qualified for the ECAC Championships and now holds the fifth best all-time mark at UMass in the 1000 meters.

Gina Perno set her best time of the season in the 800 meters (2:14.32) and placed sixth. Perno's time qualifies her for the ECAC Championships. Also qualifying for the ECAC's was the 4X800 meter relay team of Madeline Nally, Courtney Baldwin, Gina Perno, and Caroline Conena. The squad placed seventh with a time of 9:20.66.

Senior Holly Heinricher notched a fifth place finish in the 200 meters, setting her best time of the indoor season (25.45). The 4X400 meter relay team of Deanna Julian, Erika Unger, Sarah Kelley, and Michelle Jenssen finished fifth with a time of 3:54.40.

Next week, the Minutewomen will head to Roxbury, Mass. for the ECAC Championships. The two-day meet will start Saturday, Mar. 6 at 10 a.m.
