Tennis Picked Fifth In A-10 Preseason Poll

AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass tennis team has been picked to finish fifth in the Atlantic 10 according to the conference's preseason poll released last week. The squad finished sixth in the conference last season, and is coming off a good fall season that saw the team go a perfect 3-0 in dual matches.

This year's team is led by Maggie Ploch, who comes into the spring ranked tenth in the northeast according to the latest ITA polls. Ploch, last year's A-10 Most Outstanding Rookie performer, went 3-0 in dual matches in the fall while playing first singles, and went 7-3 in tournament play.

Richmond has been picked to repeat as A-10 championships after taking home its fifth title in the past six seasons a year ago. Temple, who won the conference in 2008, has been tabbed second this year, followed by Charlotte.

The Minutewomen will open up spring play this weekend when they travel to Yale on Friday (6 p.m.) before hosting Siena on Saturday (1 p.m.).
