AMHERST, Mass. - UMass swimming and diving freshman Derek Hursch has been recognized for his outstanding performance in the pool this past weekend against Binghamton. The Atlantic 10 has named Hursch the Atlantic 10 Men's Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week. This is his fourth Atlantic 10 honor, in four weeks of action with the Minutemen.

Hursch was able to help the Minutemen claim a close victory over Binghamton this weekend by claiming first-place in the 100-yard freestyle (47.32), the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.95) and the 200 IM (1:54.88). He has yet to lose in an individual event this season, going 11-0 over the first four weeks of action.

The Rochelle Park, N.J. native currently holds four top league times in the 100-yard freestyle (47.2), the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.46), the 200 IM (1:54.88) and the 400 IM (4:10.00).

Hursch has now received four Atlantic 10 honors in as many weeks. He was named Performer of the Week in the season-opener against Boston University (10/16), and the past two weeks against Stony Brook (10/30) and Binghamton (11/6). He was also named Rookie of the Week in the home-opener against Army (10/23) as teammate Jason Cook was named Performer of the Week.

Hursch and the Minutemen have this weekend off as they prepare for the Terrier Invitational on Nov 20-22.
