Minutewomen Fall 5-0 At Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio - The UMass women's soccer team wrapped up its weekend trip to Ohio on Sunday afternoon, falling to Dayton 5-0, in Atlantic 10 action at Baujan Field. Following the loss, the Minutewomen are now 5-8-0 overall, 2-2-0 in the A-10, while the Flyers are now 12-2-0 after picking up their ninth straight win and sit atop the conference standings at 4-0-0.
Juliana Libertin started off the scoring at the 9:27 mark as she collected a pass from Allison Giner and dribbled down the sideline before sending a shot along the ground that found its way inside the far left post.
Senior Sydney Stoll had UMass' first shot of the game, coming in the 18th minute, while classmate Therese Smith followed with a header at 18:55, off a corner from junior Meghan Collins, but neither attempt was on target.
Freshman Brittany Moore's free kick tested Lisa Rodgers in the 33rd minute. However, Moore's strike was touched away by the Flyers' netminder.
On the counter-attack, Dayton increased its advantage to 2-0 at 33:04. Stephanie Emery scored from Alexis Garcia after Garcia collected the rebound from a blocked shot by Maggie Murnane.
Just over four minutes later, the Flyers moved the score to 3-0 as Colleen Williams sent the ball home for her 12th of the season off a free kick by Emily Kenyon.
Dayton added two more goals in the second half. Giner scored in the 68th minute from Jerica Dewolfe and Andrea Todak, while Maggie Hinkle's unassisted tally came in the 83rd minute.
The Flyers finished with a 24-8 advantage in shots and led corner kick opportunities, 8-2. Fouls were 9-5, against Dayton.
Freshman Emersyn Pullan and sophomore Emily Cota split time in net for the Minutewomen. Pullan made four saves in the first half, while Cota relieved her and turned aside two shots in the second period. Rodgers totaled five saves and picked up the shutout for the Flyers.
UMass will be back in action one week from today as the squad will play at Rhode Island on Sunday, Oct. 17, at 1 p.m.
