Heinricher, Wilson Lead UMass At Reebok Boston Games

BOSTON, Mass. - The UMass women's track and field team took third place overall out of seventeen teams at today's Reebok Boston Indoor Games. The Minutewomen were led once again by Lisa Wilson who contributed 15 points to the team total of 82. Northeastern won the meet with 135.25 points followed by South Florida with 112 points.
In the shot put, senior Lisa Wilson placed first with a mark of 45-00.50 while freshman Nalis Mbianda took third with her toss of 44-04.00. The duo was able to score 16 points for the Minutewomen in the shot put alone. Wilson also added five more points with a fourth place finish in the weight throw (54-02.75). Wilson and Mbianda both previously qualified for the New England Championships and ECAC Championships.
In the 200 meter dash, senior Holly Heinricher crossed the line at 25.96, good enough for sixth place. Heinricher also added an eighth place finish in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.44
Rounding out the field events for UMass, junior Stephanie Aguguo placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 37-10.50. Reigning A-10 Rookie Performer of the Week Nicole Pompei posted a height of 11-11.75 and placed third in the pole vault. In the long jump, junior Ida Okkonen took fifth with a mark of 17-07.00.
UMass found great success with the squad's top relay teams. In the 4X400 meter relay, the group of Brittany Bakanowski, Michelle Jenssen, Holly Heinricher, and Rosalind Murphy combined for a time of 3:57.22 for a second place finish. Likewise, the distance medley relay team of Karen Roa, Sarah Kelley, Courtney Baldwin, and Gina Perno notched a second place finish (12:06.76) and also qualified for the ECAC Championships.
Freshman Courtney Baldwin kept her qualifying streak alive, finishing fourth in the mile, crossing at 4:58.31 and qualifying for the ECAC Championships. This marks the third straight week that Baldwin has qualified for a championship meet. Gina Perno placed fourth in the 800 meter run (2:17.66) and qualified for the New England Championships. In the 500 meter dash, Brittany Bakanowski finished third and Deanna Julian finished fourth with respective times of 1:17.52 and 1:17.89.
The next meet for the Minutewomen will take place Friday, Feb. 5th at the Giegengack Invitational. The meet will begin at 5:00 p.m.
