AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass women's cross country team is set to host its only home meet of the season when the squad takes on Amherst, Vermont, Maine, and Boston College. The Minutewomen are looking to build off the success they had at last weekend's Fairfield Invitational in Connecticut.
In the meet, UMass was led by junior co-captain Lauren Stocker who finished eighth out of 89 runners with a time of 19:25. Stocker helped propel UMass to a third-place finish out of seven teams. UMass also received strong contributions from junior Gina Perno, sophomore Claire Pettit, and sophomore Karen Roa who finished 11th, 13th, and 14th respectively. Pettit and Perno each finished with times of 19:31, while Roa crossed a mere second later at 19:32.
At last year's home opener in Amherst, redshirt junior co-captain Shiyi Zan placed first overall in the 5k with a time of 18:21. Zan led the team to a third-place finish at the meet. The Minutewomen will again look to Zan to lead the team as she has done throughout her career at UMass.
The women's race will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the UMass Cross Country Course behind the Wysocki House.
