Cross Country Set To Host Home Meet

AMHERST, Mass. - After an impressive opening meet at the Dartmouth invitational, the UMass men's cross country team is set for their home opener this Saturday at 11:00 a.m. when the squad will host Amherst, UConn, Maine, and Vermont in a five-way meet.
The Minutemen had four runners finish in the top-10 last week, while overall the team took second place at the Dartmouth Invitational. Jonathan Pierce topped all Minutemen runners with a finish of 26:02.90 in the 8k, allowing him to finish fourth overall. Sophomore Zachary Gordon finished in fifth place with a time of 26:10.30, just behind Pierce. Senior, Andrew Mulvaney also finished in the top-10 for the Minutemen, as did sophomore Jeffrey Hill.
Looking to take first place, the Minutemen will attempt to repeat their finish last year at their home opener. Current senior Andrew McCann took second place last year finishing with a time of 25:45. Helping to lead the Minutemen's campaign for first place was Jonathan Perce as he finished fifth on the team and eighth overall with a time of 26:20. UMass took first place in the meet with 19 points as Maine came in second, followed by Vermont, and UConn.
The men's race will begin at 11 a.m. at the UMass Cross Country Course behind the Wysocki House.
