Men Take Second At Dartmouth XC Invitational

HANOVER, N.H. - The UMass men's cross country team kicked off its 2009 campaign on Saturday with a second-place finish at the Dartmouth Invitational. Taking second with 37 points the Minutemen came in just behind the host Big Green (21 points), while Boston College took third (73 points) and Quinnipiac was fourth (120 points).
Senior Jonathan Pierce led the way for UMass, completing the 8k race in 26:02.90, good for fourth overall. Sophomore Zachary Gordon followed in fifth with a time of 26:10.30.
Also placing in the top-10 for the Minutemen were senior Andrew Mulvaney who came in seventh with a time of 26:20.30 and sophomore Jeffrey Hill who crossed the line in 26:28.70 to place 10th out of 44 runners.
Sophomore Jason Ayr rounded out the UMass scorers in 11th with a time of 26:29.70.
The Minutemen will be back in action next Saturday, Sept. 19, when the squad will host a five-way meet, competing against Amherst, Connecticut, Maine and Vermont, beginning at 11 a.m.
