Juancarlos Nunez Named Tennis Assistant Coach

AMHERST, Mass. - Juancarlos Nunez has been named graduate assistant coach of the UMass women's tennis team as announced by head coach Judy Dixon. Nunez was a standout player at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock from 2004-08 and served as an assistant coach this past season for the women's team.
As a member of the UALR Trojans, Nunez was a three-time member of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team earning first team honors in 2007-08. Additionally, he earned ITA National Scholar-Athlete accolades.
A native of Valencia, Venezuela, Nunez posted a career 78-30 in singles play at UALR including a 24-5 record as a junior in 2006-07.
Nunez maintained a 3.97 grade point average majoring in speech communication with a minor in health science. He received Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List and UALR Chancellor and Dean's Lists every semester of his career.
Additionally, Nunez served as team captain in 2007-08, was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society and a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
While serving as an assistant coach for the UALR women's team in 2008-09, Nunez was also an associate teaching professional and was an instructor at the Clemson University Tennis Camps.
The Minutewomen finished sixth at the Atlantic 10 Tournament last spring posting an 11-15 record for the season. Three returning Minutewomen earned Atlantic 10 postseason accolades last year. Rising sophomore Magdalena Ploch was named the league's Most Outstanding Rookie Performer and a First Team All-Conference honoree, while rising junior Candynce Boney was named to the All-Conference Second Team. Rising senior Maude Lecluyse earned her first Academic All-Conference distinction.
