UMass Soccer Faces Defending National Champion Maryland Friday

AMHERST, Mass. - The UMass men's soccer team faces defending National Champion Maryland at Rudd Field on Friday, May 1 at 5:00 p.m. to kick off the Sport Management department's annual SoccerFest. The Friday Night Showdown will be free to all SuperCuts SoccerFest participants, $5 for adults and $2 for UMass students. The game will be followed by a free autograph session with the players, including graduated senior and Revolution goalie Zack Simmons.
The Maryland team is among the most accomplished to ever visit the University of Massachusetts, having won national championships in both 2005 and 2008 and have featured Olympians and United States national team members Taylor Twellman, Maurice Edu, and Chris Seitz.

The Minutemen are coming off their second straight NCAA Tournament Berth this past fall. UMass earned its first-ever at-large berth after capturing the Atlantic 10 Regular-Season title. This was a follow-up to the magical 2007 run that saw the Minutemen reach the NCAA College Cup (Final Four) for the first time in school history.
