UMass Suffers Loss At Richmond, 7-0

RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Massachusetts women's tennis team fell to the Richmond Spiders on Saturday, 7-0. The Spiders are 13-4 on the season with a 21-0 running record against Atlantic 10 opponents. The Spiders won every match against Massachusetts (8-10). The closest match of the day, at No. 3 doubles, came down to a tiebreak that Richmond won 8-6.
Richmond won all three of the doubles matches earning the first point of the match. The highlight of the doubles came at the No. 3 spot where Candynce Boney and Lauren MacKay forced their opponents, Schneider and Matuszczk, to a tiebreak, which Richmond won 8-6. The Spiders had the momentum moving into singles play.
At No. 1 singles Boney lost to Senior Pamela Duran, 6-3, 6-3. Kaitlyn Carpenter fought hard at No. 2 but lost to Erin Clark. At No. 6 singles Senior MacKay had another close match. MacKay won the first set 6-3 and then dropped the second set by the same score of 6-3. The deciding set went to Richmond 6-2.
The Minutewomen return to play on Wednesday, April 1 at Boston College.
