UMass Falls To #55 Old Dominion, 6-1

NORFOLK, Va. - The University of Massachusetts women's tennis team fell to the Old Dominion Monarchs Friday afternoon, 6-1. The two wins of the day for Massachusetts (8-9) came at No. 3 doubles by the duo of Candynce Boney and Lauren MacKay and at No. 5 singles by Laura Danai. The #55 ranked Monarchs improve their season record to an impressive 17-4. The UMass women are 8-9.
Old Dominion started the match off by winning at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, giving them the first point. The UMass team of Boney and MacKay pulled out the win at No. 3 doubles, defeating their opponents 8-4.
In singles action, ODU won five of the six matches. At No. 5, senior Danai was the lone Minutewomen to post a singles win, defeating her opponent in a close-fought match. Danai started strong, winning the first set 6-2 and then was upset, dropping the second 6-1. The match came down to a decisive third set super-tiebreak, which Danai won 10-7. Danai comes away from the match with an impressive 12-5 singles record.
The Minutewomen continue their weekend play in Virginia on Saturday, Mar. 28 when they face A-10 opponent Richmond.
