Minutewomen Finish Sixth At Atlantic 10 Championships

Kingston, R.I. - The UMass women's track and field team ranked sixth overall of 12 teams at the Atlantic 10 Championships this weekend at Mackal Field House in Kingston, R.I. The top performance of the day came from sophomore triple jumper Stephanie Aguguo (Shrewsbury, Mass.) who now ranks third all time at UMass with an ECAC qualifying mark of 38-06.00. Aguguo placed fourth overall at the meet. Sophomore Ida Okkonen (Kuopio, Finland) also competed in the triple jump, with a mark of 36-10.25 to rank eighth overall at A-10's and fifth all-time at UMass.
Also scoring for the Minutewomen in field events was junior Lisa Wilson (Holden, Mass.) scored five points for UMass in the shot put with a distance of 42-07.00 and a fourth place finish.
On the track side, many athletes recorded team-best times at the Atlantic 10 Championships. In the mile, Liz Fisk (Seekonk, Mass.) ran a time of 5:12.14 for a 13th place finish and the best so far this season. Freshman Claire Pettit (Warwick, N.Y.) crossed the 800 meter finish line fifth, with a season-best time of 2:15.56 to score the Minutewomen four points. Also scoring four points was sophomore Gina Peno (Plainview,N.Y.) in the 1000 meter run with a time of 3:01.35 to finish fifth.
Also scoring for the Minutewomen were juniors Holly Heinricher (Foxboro, Mass.) and Brittany Bakanowski (Northboro, Mass.), as well as redshirt sophomore Shiyi Zan (Ottawa, Ontario). Heinricher ran the 200 in 25.82 for a sixth place finish. Bakanowski and Zan each finished eighth, Bakanowski in the 500 meter (1:17.23) and Zan in the 3000 (10:11.07).
The Minutewomen return to Amherst for the week before crossing the state to Boston for the New England Championships on Feb. 27-28.
