Walsh Named UMass/Dinn Bros. Athlete Of The Week

AMHERST, Mass. - Elizabeth Walsh has been named the UMass/Dinn Bros. Athlete of the Week, as announced by the athletic department on Monday. Walsh won two individual races last weekend to help the Minutewomen knock off Army in West Point. She will be honored at the weekly UMass Sports Luncheon on Wednesday at 12:15 PM in the Campus Center room 1009.
Walsh finished first in the 200 meter freestyle with a time of 1:57.44. She also took the top spot in the 200 meter backstroke (2:11.60). In addition, Walsh helped the 400 meter freestyle relay team to a first place finish with a time of 3:36.74. The senior contributed 29 points to help UMass to a 166.5-127.5 win.
In the team's opening meet against Boston University on October 17, the Marshfield, Mass. native notched a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:56.72 and a third-place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:13.04.
The Minutewomen will return to the pool next Saturday for a Halloween matchup with Stony Brook starting at 1 PM at the Joseph P. Rogers Pool.
