BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The UMass women's cross country team finished in 36th place at the 36th annual Paul Short Invitational this Friday. The squad was a part of the biggest field of competitors in the meet's history. Out of the 5,000 runners in attendance, the Women's Gold Division (Division I colleges) held 363 runners in total. The Minutewomen finished with a score of 879 points, and came in only four points behind 35th place Lafayette (875). West Virginia won the 40 team meet with a total of 105 points.
The lead runner for UMass was Claire Pettit who crossed at 22:11 and finished in 124th place. Sophomore Karen Roa continued her solid season by placing 155th out of the 363 total harriers. Roa finished the 6k with a time of 22:26.
Rounding out the top five finishers for the Minutewomen were junior co-captain Lauren Stocker (22:35), junior Gina Perno (22:41), and freshman Danielle Allocco (23:30). As a result of her top five team finish, Allocco scored her first points in her UMass career. Stocker, Perno, and Allocco finished 169th, 184th, and 247th respectively.
The Minutewomen will be back in action Saturday, Oct. 10 at 12:00 p.m. when the team will compete in the New England Championships held in Boston, Mass.
