AMHERST, Mass. - Christina DeRosa (Sound Beach, N.Y.) and Shiyi Zan (Ottawa, Ontario) were each named to the 2008 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Women's Track & Field Academic All-Conference Team as announced by the league office. For DeRosa, this was her third academic honor for track. This was Zan's first track academic honor after earning academic honors during the fall cross country season as well.

DeRosa, a kinesiology major, has had a career senior year for UMass as she prepares for the NCAA Regional Meet which begins this Friday in Tallahassee, Fla., and will be hosted by Florida State. DeRosa ranks 28th nationally in the 10,000 meters and 24th in the East Region in the 5,000 meters.

Two school records fell this past year as DeRosa set new standards in the indoor 5,000 meters and the outdoor 10,000 meters. During the winter, she posted a time of 16:41.71 in the 5K at the ECAC Championships after turning in a Second-Team All-Conference effort at the A-10 Indoor Championships. Early in the outdoor season, she took down the 10K record at UMass to qualify for the NCAA Regional Meet with her time of 34:26.95 at the Stanford Invitational. She also ranks second all-time at UMass in the indoor 3,000 meters (9:42.26) and in the outdoor 5,000 meters (16:41.49). She set the Atlantic 10 Outdoor 10K record earlier this May when UMass hosted the conference championships.

During the cross country season, DeRosa became the fourth individual conference meet champion in school history earning the leagues Most Outstanding Performer award. She was also named the A-10 Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Zan had a strong season after medically redshirting her true freshman year. At the New England Outdoor Championships she turned in the fifth fastest mark in UMass history in the 5,000 meters (17:08.64).

During the cross country season, she was an all-conference finisher at the A-10 Championships and also earned academic all-conference honors as a kinesiology major.
