Christina DeRosa Ranks Nationally In 5K And 10 K

AMHERST, Mass. - Since shattering the UMass record in the 10K at the Stanford Invitational, senior Christina DeRosa (Sound Beach, N.Y.) is now ranked nationally according to the NCAA. After placing third at the Invitational with a time of 34:26.95, DeRosa is now ranked 22nd in the nation. DeRosa also ranks 55th in the 5K after placing second at the Larry Ellis Invitational with a time of 16:41.49.
In addition to being ranked nationally, DeRosa is ranked in the East Region. DeRosa is ranked 18th in the 5K and ninth in the 10K. DeRosa currently holds the second fastest time at UMass in the 5K and the school record in the 10K.
Red-shirted junior Kristen Bakanowski (Northboro, Mass.) also ranks in the East Region in the pole vault competition. Bakanowski set a school and facility record with a height of 12 feet, 7.50 inches in the pole vault at the UMass Invitational. Bakanowski now ranked ninth in the East Region.
This weekend, the UMass track and field team will host the 2008 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships at the UMass Track and Field Facility.
