DURHAM, N.H. - On Saturday, the UMass track and field teams traveled to the University of New Hampshire to participate in the UNH Pre-Conference Meet. UMass took first place in seven events, while senior Nathan Barksdale (Valparaiso, Indiana) had the top performance of the day after placing second in the 200 meter dash to qualify for the New England Championships with a time of 22.31 seconds. The meet served as a final tune up for the athletes before UMass plays host to the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships next weekend.

UMass took first place in a season high seven events at the meet. For the men, sophomore Tyler Cotto (Holliston, Mass.) placed first in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.82 seconds. Freshman Chris Vercollone (Burlington, Mass.) took first place in the javelin with a throw of 175 feet. For the women, senior Alisha Tatham (Brampton, Ontario) placed first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.84 seconds. In the 200 meter dash, sophomore Holly Heinricher (Foxboro, Mass.) placed first in 26.12 seconds. The relay team of sophomore Brittany Bakanowski (Northboro, Mass.), sophomore Ros Murphy (Beverly, Mass.), Heinricher, and Tatham placed first in the 4x100 meter relay in 45.53 seconds. Sophomore Lisa Wilson (Holden, Mass.) took first place in the shot put (40 feet, 10.5 inches) and the hammer throw (161 feet, 7 inches.) Wilson also took second place in the discus throw with a distance of 137 feet, 10 inches.

In other men's events, freshman Michael Perrotta (Woodmere, N.Y.) placed second in the 400 meter dash in 50.03 seconds, while freshman Matt Gulino (Attleboro, Mass.) placed seventh in 51.91 seconds. In the 800 meter run, freshman Scott VanderMolen (Tully, N.Y.) placed fourth in 1:57.90, while sophomore Ryan Diorio (Bridgewater, N.J.) finished eighth in 1:59.20. Freshman Kris Carle (Jackson, N.J.) placed sixth in the 1500 meter run in 4:01.77. Senior Matthew Klypka (Oakland, N.J.) was right behind in seventh place in 4:03.07, while sophomore Andrew Mulvaney (South Hadley, Mass.) finished tenth in 4:06.96. Freshman Daniel Schwartz (Sudbury, Mass.) took fourth place in the 400 meter hurdles in 58.13 seconds. In the 4x100 meter relay, UMass placed second with a time of 42.12 seconds. In the 4x400 meter relay, UMass finished sixth with a time of 3:31.66.

In field events, sophomore Brian Miller (Foxboro, Mass.) placed fourth in the high jump competition with a height of 6 feet, 2 inches. Chris Vercollone placed sixth with a height of 6 feet. In the pole vault competition, freshman Sean Busch (Stow, Mass.) took fourth place with a height of 13 feet, 3.50 inches. Daniel Schwartz placed sixth with a height of 12 feet, 9.50 inches, while freshman Chris Dzidek (Chicopee, Mass.) took seventh with a height of 12 feet, 3.50 inches.

In other women's events, Ros Murphy placed fifth in the 100 meter dash in 13.52 seconds. In the 800 meter run, freshman Gina Perno (Plainview, N.Y.) took second place with a time of 2:17.10. Senior Jennifer Curtain (Medford, N.Y.) took sixth place in 2:21.66, while sophomore Nicole Serapiglia (Northboro, Mass.) finished seventh in 2:21.71. Senior Christina DeRosa (Sound Beach, N.Y.) took second place in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:44.41. In the 100 meter hurdles, freshman Elaina Zizza (Stoneham, Mass.) finished ninth in 17.03 seconds. Brittany Bakanowski placed sixth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:06.46.

In the 4x400 meter relay, the team of Kristen and Brittany Bakanowski, Gina Perno, and Alisha Tatham took second place with a time of 4:00.98. The team of Nicole Serapiglia, Holly Heinricher, Britt Canfield, and Ros Murphy finished ninth in 4:29.36.

In field events, freshman Jaclyn Imhoff (Milton, Mass.) placed eighth in the high jump competition with a heigh of 4 feet, 11 inches. In the pole vault competition, sophomore Molly Chapin (Northfield, Mass.) placed fourth with a height of 10 feet, 4 inches, while freshman Jenelle Denehy (Whatley, Mass.) placed fifth with the same height. Senior Kate Mills (Elkton, Md.) placed fifth in the javelin throw with a distance of 118 feet, 6 inches, while freshman Kristina Landau (Millis, Mass.) finished sixth with a throw of 118 feet.
