Divers Compete In The NCAA Zone Regional Meet

Senior Reuben Rappe (Farmington, Minn.) and junior Karen Upperco (Titusville, N.J.) wrapped up their season this past weekend competing in the NCAA Zone Diving Regional at the Alumni Arena Natatorium, in Buffalo, New York. Both Upperco and Rappe improved their dives from last year, with Rappe finishing seventh out of 31 divers in the three-meter dive with a score of 603.80 and fifth overall in the one-meter dive with a score of 581.25. Upperco finished fourth overall out of 22 divers on both boards with a score 532.65 in the one-meter and 563.65 on the three-meter board.
The meet began on Friday with the women's one-meter trials and finals and the men's three-meter trials and finals. Upperco scored a 253.80 in the one-meter prelims and finished strong with a final dive of 278.85 grabbing fourth place overall. On the three-meter board, Rappe dove for a score of 302.80 during the prelims and capped off the day with a score of 301.00 for his final dive landing him a seventh place finish overall.
The second day of diving included the men's one-meter and women's three-meter trials and finals. After placing seventh overall last year on the three-meter board, Upperco improved to a fourth place finish this year scoring a 264.25 in the prelims and a 299.40 in the finals. On the men's one-meter board, Rappe improved last year's seventh place finish with a score of 281.30 in the preliminaries and a final dive worth 299.95 points to finish fifth overall.
This year marked the fourth appearance for Rappe at the NCAA Zone Regional and it was Upperco's third trip to the competition.
