UMass Falls To Albany, 4-3 In Spring Season Opener

Albany, N.Y. - UMass fell to Albany in their first match of the spring season. UMass who was 1-0 entering the meet, after defeating UConn during the fall, lost to the Great Danes, 4-3. They are now 1-1 during their 07-08 campaign.
The doubles teams continued on their winning ways winning the first point on the day. Masha Pozar (Ljubljana, Slovenia) and Candynce Boney (Las Vegas, Nev.) beat their first doubles counterparts Aimee Kern and Susan Ma 8-3. Meanwhile, Kristin DiPiero (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.), who finished the fall season winning each of her singles matches at the Big Green Invitational partnered up with Tanisha Hodgson (Savaneta, Aruba) to defeat Kim Weltman and Charlotte Tatler 8-6.
Pozar went on to defeat Kern once again, this time in singles play, 6-3, 6-3 while Boney beat Ma for the second time on the day, 7-6 (5), 6-2. Those two wins gave UMass a 3-0 advantage over Albany, but with losses coming in the No. 3 - No. 6 singles games, UMass gave up the lead, and the win to the Great Danes.
The Minutewomen return to action Friday against Fordham in Mt. Kisco, N.Y. at 3 p.m.
