UMass Wins First Match Of Spring Season, 5-2

MT. KISCO, N.Y. - UMass used their doubles power to beat conference foe Fordham and land their first win of the spring season. Last year, UMass routed Fordham with only one loss coming in the No. 1 singles category. This year, the Nos. 3-6 singles players won each of their matches giving UMass the 5-2 advantage and the win.
Candynce Boney (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Masha Pozar (Ljubljana, Slovenia) continued their No. 1 doubles streak winning 8-6 while Kristin DiPiero (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) and Tanisha Hodgson (Savaneta, Aruba) routed Fordham, 8-0 to keep their spring season winning streak alive and earn UMass one point in the victory.
It was the No. 3-6 singles players however that scored the final four points of the match and captured the win for the Minutewomen. Kaitlyn Carpenter (Alburis, Pa.) and Laura Murillo (Holyoke, Mass.) both beat their opponents in 6-0, 6-0 fashion while fellow teammates Boney and Maude Lecluyse (Montreal, Canada) defeated their opponents 6-0, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-2 respectively.
UMass is back in action against Columbia February 9 at 12 p.m.
