UMass Track And Field To Compete In New England Championships

AMHERST, Mass. - The men and women's track and field teams will compete in the New England Championships this weekend. The men and women are coming off eighth and tenth place finishes at the Atlantic 10 Championships.
Junior distance runner Christina DeRosa (Sound Beach, N.Y.) won the 10,000 meter run and took third in the 5,000 meter run. DeRosa will not be competing at the New England Championships; she will be competing in the ECAC championships taking place Friday night. Those heading to the New England Championships for the women include Brittany Bakanowski (Northboro, Mass.), Brittany Canfield (Southwick, Mass.), Alexandra Haller (Marblehead, Mass.), Mary Serdakowski (Richmond, R.I.), Jen Curtin (Medford, N.Y.), Ashley Davidson (Natick, Mass.) and Nicole Serapiglia (Northboro, Mass.). Serdakowski will compete in the 100 meter and 400 meter hurdles. Backanowski and Haller will also compete in the 400 meter hurdles. Curtin, Serapigla, Canfield and Davidson will run the 4x800 meter relay.
Competition at the New England Championships will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday as well as 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The New England Championships will take place in Hanover, N.H.
