Christina DeRosa Takes Fifth In 10K At ECAC Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. - Junior Christina DeRosa (Sound Beach, N.Y.) represented the University of Massachusetts women's track team well on Friday night as the lone competitor at the ECAC Championships hosted by Princeton University. The distance runner turned in a fifth-place performance in the 10,000 meters with the second fastest time of her career at 36 minutes, 28.04 seconds. DeRosa entered the meet coming off her Atlantic 10 Championship performance in the 10K one week ago. Friday's race was the first time she had competed at the ECAC Outdoor Championship Meet during her career.
Jolee Van Leuven of Princeton won the race in 34 minutes, 58.82 seconds. In just her second 10,000 meter race of the season, DeRosa was just 21 seconds shy of setting her career-best time in the event.
Jacqueline Prevete of Fordham was the only other Atlantic 10 runner entered in the race and she finished 12th overall. A week ago, she finished third just behind DeRosa.
