CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - UMass' Jon Quick and Justin Braun earned individual awards at the annual Hockey East Banquet on Thursday night at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Cambridge, Mass. Quick was named to the Hockey East All-Star Second Team, while Braun earned a spot on the All-Rookie Team. The Minutemen also earned the Charlie Holt Team Sportsmanship Award for the second time under Head Coach Don Cahoon.

Quick became the first UMass player since Thomas Pöck in 2003-04 to be named as an all-league selection. He more than quadrupled his wins total from his rookie season with a save percentage and goals-against average that ranks in the top-10 and top-15 nationally. He is one of eight NCAA DI goaltenders to reach the 2000-minute mark this season while allowing two goals or less in 22 of 34 games.

Quick set a UMass Hockey Modern Era (1993-present) record for wins in a season with his 18th, recorded on March 10 vs. the Maine Black Bears. He's also sitting at No. 1 in the saves category with 949, shattering the record owned by Markus Helanen, who made 885 stops. He has tied the record for games played in a season (34) and is on pace to set the mark for minutes played as well.

Justin Braun

Braun is third among all UMass defensemen in scoring with four goals and 10 assists for 14 points. His 14 points ranks 15th among all league defensemen, second among rookie defensemen and 10th among all HEA rookies. The four goals overall pace all freshman blueliners both in overall games and conference games, while three of his four goals came against the top three teams in Hockey East. UMass' defense is fifth in defense scoring (2.36); 2.33 (fourth) in conference games. The last UMass freshmen to be named to the league's All-Rookie team were P.J. Fenton and David Leaderer in 2004-05.

The Charlie Holt Team Sportsmanship Award recognizes an entire team for its sportsmanlike play, and is named after the former New Hampshire coach. This award is given to the team which receives the lowest average penalty minutes per game over the course of the regular season in league play. This marks the second time the Minutemen have earned the award, with UMass averaging 11.8 penalty minutes per game in 2001-02. UMass averaged 10.8 this season, the third-lowest in the history of the award, which started in 1999.
